Greetings Badger State Games Competitors,
Thank you for participating in the 2024 Badger State Games! We are excited to host you in Wausau, Wisconsin. Within this letter you will find some details to help you prepare for the weekend of competition.

FORMAT – Men’s and Adult Open
Each team will play a three-game round robin with other teams in their pool. The top two teams from each pool will advance to the medal rounds Sunday morning. The advancing teams will then be ranked 1 - 4 for the semifinals based on their record with tiebreakers used. The winners of the Sunday morning games will advance to the Gold/Silver Medal game, and the two losing teams will play for the Bronze medal.
FORMAT – Junior Open
Each team will play a two-game round robin with other teams in their pool. All teams will then be seeded according to their record and tiebreaker score explained below. Below is an example of the bracket we will be using, with seeding:
TIEBREAKING METHOD
Ties will be broken using the following methodology: 1st tiebreaker - Win-loss record
2nd tiebreaker - Head-to-head result, if two team tie that played against each other 3rd tiebreaker - Lowest Shootout Measurement Score (explained below)
Shootout Measurement Score:
Four members of a team will each throw one rock trying to get as close to the center of the button (the pin) as possible. The cumulative distance of the teams four throws from the center of the button, measured by the nearest quarter inch.
NOTE:
- A Badger State Games representative will serve as an official measurer.
- Any stone that misses the house will be counted as 100”.
- Sweeping is allowed for the tie breaker throws.
- If there is a situation where two teams have the same tie breaking number and the tie cannot be broken, we will have a coin toss to break the tie.
MEALS AND BEVERAGES
For Participants under the age of 21, soda and water are included.
For Participants over the age of 21, beer, soda, and water are included. Mixed drinks can be purchased. For visitors/spectators over the age of 21, soda, beer, mixed drinks, and food can be purchased.
The curling club will provide six meals over the course of the weekend. The menu includes:
Friday: 6:30 – 8:00 pm
- Dinner 6:30 – 8:00pm
- Brats & Kraut, Baked Beans, Chips, Coleslaw, Potato Salad
Saturday:
- Breakfast – 8am – 10am
- Light Breakfast - scrambled eggs, sausages, muffins/toast/bagels, fruit, hard boiled eggs
- Lunch – 11:00am – 1:00pm
- Build Your own sandwich Bar, Soups, Chips, Coleslaw, Potato Salad
- Dinner – 5:30pm – 7:30pm
- Taco & Nacho Bar, Salad
Sunday:
- Breakfast – 8am – 10am
- Light Breakfast - scrambled eggs, sausages, muffins/toast/bagels, fruit, hard boiled eggs
- Lunch – 11:00am – 12:30pm
- Soups, sandwiches & leftovers

Open to Minnesota, Illinois and Upper Michigan as well as Wisconsin.
This event will be conducted in the Bonspiel format which means that the entry fee includes food, beer, and soda for the weekend.

3 game guarantee for all divisions.
A maximum of 60 teams will be able to register to compete.
DEFINITIONS:

Spectator Information:
For those that want to cheer on our athletes and to see them bring home the gold here are a few tips:
Best place to view the event & how much you can see: You can see every game. Events starts on Friday based on number of participants.
Seating Available or bring your own chairs: Bleacher seating.
Admission Fee: No
Concessions: Concessions available. Donations accepted.
Carry-ins allowed (food &/or drink): No
Merchandise:
Signs or Noise makers: No, athletes won't be able to hear them or see them.

GENERAL RULES:
World Curling Federation rules apply. Free guard zone will be used. WCF, USCA, WSCA membership is not required for BSG participation.
OPEN TO WISCONSIN, ILLINOIS, MINNESOTA AND UPPER MICHIGAN RESIDENTS.
FORMAT:
-Based on the number of entries team will be placed into four teams pods within each division. The teams will play the other three teams in their pod. The winner of each pod will advance to the medal play round.
-Each team is guaranteed 3 games.
