ABOUT THE BADGER STATE GAMES

A Wisconsin Sports Tradition Since 1985

The Badger State Games began in 1985 with a simple idea: give Wisconsin athletes of different ages and abilities the opportunity to experience high-quality, Olympic-style competition close to home.

Four decades later, the tradition continues.

Badger State Games includes winter and summer competitions held in Greater Wausau and communities across Wisconsin. The Games welcome youth, adults, masters athletes, teams and individual competitors across a diverse and evolving lineup of sports.

Competition for More Athletes

You don't have to be an elite athlete to compete in the Badger State Games.

Individual sports establish their own divisions, classifications and eligibility requirements, allowing many events to welcome everyone from first-time competitors to experienced athletes.

For some, BSG is the first competitive experience. For others, it's an opportunity to chase another personal best, win a state medal or qualify for competition at the national level.

Part of the State Games Movement

Badger State Games is part of the national State Games movement.

Athletes who earn medals in eligible BSG sports and divisions may qualify for the State Games of America, a national multi-sport competition bringing together State Games athletes from across the United States.

Qualification varies by sport, division and national eligibility requirements.

Growing the Games

Badger State Games continues to welcome new sports and new event partners.

Rather than requiring every competition to operate under one centralized model, BSG works with qualified clubs, associations and experienced event organizers that can deliver great competitions in their respective sports.

This allows the Badger State Games tradition to reach more athletes, more sports and more Wisconsin communities.
