WAUSAU, WI (July 3, 2019) - The Badger State Games' Summer Games are celebrating 35 years of bringing Olympic-style sporting events to Wisconsin, allowing athletes of all ages and abilities to "Go for the Gold". Custom spinning medals in Gold, Silver, and Bronze are new this year to commemorate our 35th Anniversary. Those who metal, are then eligible to compete in the State Games of America taking place in Lynchburg, VA. Here is what's happening this weekend.
Gravel Grind: Gravel Bike Racing
Gravel road racing will take riders through three counties with two separate races, BURGR95 and Fork Horners 47. BURGR95 is a 95.5 mile race which includes 66.2 miles on gravel, rough fire roads, fast single lanes, and plenty of climbing. The ride is self-navigated by GPS or a cue sheet through the wilderness of Lincoln, Langlade, and Oneida counties. Riders will be responsible for themselves and should not count on rescue as the 5-7 hour course does not pass through any towns and cell phone service is limited.
For the slightly less adventurous, the Fork Horners 47 course is 47.3 miles and generally flatter and smoother, without the rough terrain.
On-site registration is available beginning at 8:00 am. More details available at www.visitwausau.com/
