Wausau/Central Wisconsin has several scenic areas to go snowshoeing.

Rib Mountain State Park, with over five miles of trails developed specifically for snowshoeing enthusiasts, offers varied terrain and provides a challenge for every skill level. Trails are clearly marked and trail maps are available at the park entrance. For a special nighttime experience, Candlelight Snowshoe Hikes are organized, complete with hot chocolate and snowshoe rentals available during scheduled snowshoe hikes. Not just a place for cross-country skiing, visitors will find some of the area’s best snowshoeing at Nine Mile County Forest Recreation Area! There are 7.5km of snowshoe trails and rentals are available, making this the perfect place to experience this fun wintertime activity. Winding along the Eau Claire River, trails at the scenic Dells of the Eau Claire Park lead snowshoers through magnificent rock formations, spectacular scenery and other Kodak moments. Adjacent to the Dells of the Eau Claire is the Ice Age Trail, offering additional trails to explore.

In addition to the places listed above, snowshoeing is also allowed at Ringle Forest trails, Sunny Vale Park and the Big Eau Pleine Park trails.
