The Mosinee Schools offer comprehensive programs in the basic skills, the arts, pre-vocational programs, and special education. Remedial programs are provided, as are programs for gifted and talented students. Each school in the district has a licensed guidance counselor. Art, music, and physical education are, at all grades, provided by a licensed teacher. In grades 6-8, all students participate in a Teacher/Advisor program designed to meet the needs of middle school students. Middle school students also participate in an Outdoor Education program. There are computer laboratories in each school for general instruction, as well as two computer labs for Business Education in the high school. A state-of-the-art applied science and technology lab is included in the Community Center. Internet access is available in all buildings. In 2009-2010, the ratio of students to computers used for instruction is 2.5 to 1. An electronic mail system is used to enhance communication for all employees in the district.
Mosinee has a distance learning lab located in the community center (Room 409) with a DS3 connection which allows us to send and receive transmissions with universities, tech schools and other educational institutions. In addition to providing our students with outstanding distance learning opportunities, the lab is an excellent staff training site for school employees, regional businesses, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations. The district currently offers some high school foreign language classes over its distance learning lab.
The district participates in a program with Central Wisconsin Airport that emphasizes aeronautics and space concepts in 7th grade. An innovative partnership with Habitat for Humanity has allowed some of our students to build a modular home on site in our home construction class. The district makes excellent use of regional resources, such as the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, the University of Wisconsin-Marathon Center, the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum, the Mead State Wildlife Area, and the Wausau Performing Arts Foundation for academic and fine arts activities. In conjunction with Northcentral Technical College, Mosinee students can earn advanced credits toward completion of NTC programs in a number of subject areas. High school students can also obtain college credits toward university degrees through programs offered at area universities or via satellite in the distance education center. Mosinee students have participated in financial service apprenticeships and in manufacturing apprenticeships. The district operates an alternative education program for at-risk students who would otherwise not be able to graduate with their high school class.
In the area of pupil services, the district employs one full-time psychologist/special education director, one full-time psychologist, and one part-time psychologist, 24 special education teachers, four counselors, one nurse, one full-time occupational therapist, and one part-time physical therapist. In academic support areas, the district employs one technology coordinator, a 1/5 part-time network engineer, one full-time technology support technician, one full-time AV support position shared by two people, reading specialist, two library/media specialists, a gifted and talented coordinator and teacher, remedial program teachers, and part-time coordinators for programs in health and school-to-work transition programs. There are building leadership teams (BLTs) at each building.
